I, de sobte, l’atzar is a collaborative and evolving project developed with local groups in the municipalities participating in the touring exhibition I, de sobte, l’atzar. Incerteses, destins i casualitats en la Col·lecció MACBA.
The work uses water as a way of portraying a territory. In each location, water is collected from places connected to local geography, memory and everyday experience. These samples are documented, classified and incorporated into a growing wooden structure that travels with the exhibition.
As the project moves from one place to another, the archive expands. The work becomes a collective cartography made through water: a portrait of a territory constructed not only through maps, but through the physical traces of its rivers, fountains, streams and other significant sites.
The project is developed within the framework of the Visual Arts Programme of the Diputació de Barcelona, with the participation of local exhibition spaces, museums and community groups.
