The Twin Paradox — installation view

A bonsai stands on a mound of earth corresponding to the amount of soil its roots would have needed had its growth not been restricted through bonsai techniques. The contrast brings together two possible developmental histories of the same living organism.

The title refers to the twin paradox in physics: two trajectories beginning together can produce different experiences of time. Here the analogy concerns two possible lives of a tree —one shaped by continuous intervention, the other imagined without that constraint— rather than a literal relativistic effect.

The work was presented at the Capella de Sant Roc in Valls in the solo exhibition f(t) = f(t−t₀), curated by Marina Vives Cabré.
