Grass Grows — installation view

This work was developed in parallel with a presentation of Hans Haacke’s Grass Grows in Munich. My exhibition in Martorell opened and closed on the same days as the Munich presentation.

In Haacke’s work, grass grows from seeds, following a biological process whose precise visible distribution is not predetermined. I instead began with already-grown grass, covered its surface, and uncovered selected areas week by week to correspond as closely as possible to what was visible in Munich.

A weekly 360-degree video of Haacke’s work served as a reference. The objective was to keep the visual difference between the two installations as small as possible throughout the exhibition, while producing their appearances through opposite procedures: growth and selective revelation.

The work tests what it means to reproduce an artwork: its appearance can be closely followed without reproducing the process that generates it.
